How to Start Seeds

How to Start Seeds Successfully

Starting seeds is easier than it looks. Most vegetables can be started directly outdoors or indoors for transplanting later.

Two Ways to Start Seeds

Direct Sowing

  • Plant seeds directly into garden soil

  • Best for beans, peas, cucumbers, squash, radishes, and carrots

Starting Indoors

  • Start seeds inside in small containers

  • Transplant outdoors after frost

  • Best for tomatoes, peppers, and broccoli

Basic Seed Starting Tips

  • Use well-draining soil

  • Plant seeds at the recommended depth

  • Keep soil moist, not soggy

  • Provide plenty of light
